UN says Israel uncooperative in Gaza flotilla probe
ASSOCIATED PRESS—A United Nations official says Israel isn’t cooperating with the UN Human Rights Council’s probe of May’s deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla.
UN rights body begins questioning Turkish Gaza flotilla witnesses
REUTERS—Investigators from the United Nations Human Rights Council have begun questioning witnesses on Israel’s May 31 raid aboard a Gaza-bound boat, which resulted in the deaths of nine Turkish activists, the UN said on Monday. An official statement said the 3-person investigative team was now in Turkey, under whose flag the vessel was registered, after hearing other witnesses in London and Geneva. The panel plans to continue its investigation in Amman, Jordan.

Panorama: Death on the Med (includes transcript)
PANORAMA/BBC NEWS—It all started in the calm blue waters of the Med. But three months on, the global storm over Israel’s blockade of Gaza is still continuing. Israel was accused of breaking international law by seizing a Turkish ship, in an action in which nine people died. Now Israel says they were terrorists, but Turkey insists they were innocent victims. With several inquiries underway, Panorama’s Jane Corbin has important new evidence from both sides, to piece together the real story for the first time.

Love Boat or Hate Boat? An Interview with IHH
IARA LEE/CULTURES OF RESISTANCE—In the immediate aftermath of the massacre aboard the Mavi Marmara on May 31st, 2010, while journalists and activists were detained and isolated from the world, the Israeli government was quick to unleash their own version of events. Like the physical assault on the boat, the Israeli media assault was also reckless, clumsy, malicious, and dangerous. They were cynical enough to understand that first impressions in the mainstream American media are what count, and with this in mind they began to frantically hurl the word “terrorist” in reference to both the victims of their attack, as well as one of the main organizers of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, the Turkish NGO IHH.
FREE GAZA MOVEMENT—An investigation revealed by Israeli news sources confirms that an Israeli military officer and soldiers stole and sold laptops belonging to passengers on board the Freedom Flotilla, which was illegally boarded by Israeli forces on May 31, 2010. The Israeli military now claims that “[t]he IDF did not receive complaints of stolen computers after the Navy raid on the Gaza-bound flotilla,” and is suggesting that “the civilians who were on the ships chose not to complain in light of the complicated incident they had gone through.”
UNITED NATIONS—The following is a near-verbatim transcript of today’s noon briefing by Martin Nesirky, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General. Good afternoon, everybody. The Secretary-General, as you heard, announced this morning that he has set up a Panel of Inquiry on the flotilla incident of 31 May. He called the launch of the Panel “an unprecedented development”. [...]
REUT INSTITUTE—The Reut Institute recently completed the English-language version of its case study on the Gaza Flotilla, a political strategic strike that caused tangible and significant damage to Israel. The Gaza Flotilla was planned over the internet and in public conferences by NGOs primarily operating from major cities of countries friendly to Israel, including London, Dublin, and San Francisco. Yet in the broader context, the Gaza Flotilla was just the tip of the iceberg. It is one incident out of many in a campaign entitled ‘Lifeline to Gaza’ designed to break the ‘siege’ of Gaza. The campaign itself is one of several being waged against Israel. Others include the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) Movement, the ‘lawfare’ strategy, and the Durban conferences.
